The Confederation of African Football has cleared Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, to play against Lesotho.

This comes after the former Arsenal star tested negative for COVID-19 following a second test.

The Nigeria Football Federation made the announcement less than seven hours to the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos today.

WuzupNigeria reports that the game against Lesotho is mere formality since the Super Eagles picked up qualification for the 2022 AFCON last Saturday.

The statement said, “CAF has cleared Alex Iwobi to play today’s game against Lesotho.

“The Super Eagles player had earlier tested positive following the COVID-19 tests conducted on the Super Eagles squad on arrival in Porto Novo, Benin Republic.

“However, Alex Iwobi’s further COVID-19 tests have returned negative.

“Clina Lancet Laboratories in Victoria Island, Lagos conducted the PCR tests. With this, Alex Iwobi is up selection today.”

Iwobi missed the 1-0 victory over the Squirrels of Benin Republic on Saturday after testing positive prior to the match.

Announcing his negative report, the NFF on Twitter said, “@NGSuperEagles forward, @alexiwobi has tested negative after further COVID-19 tests were conducted.”
