There was chaos at the Faculty of Arts, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, after a female student attacked and bit a lecturer during a heated argument over a TikTok video.

The incident happened on campus when the lecturer, identified as Dr. Chukwudi Michael, interrupted the student while she was recording a dance video in the faculty corridor.

Eyewitnesses said the student was dancing while someone filmed her when Dr. Michael tried to pass by.

“The lecturer tapped her on the shoulder and said, ‘Excuse me,’ as he walked past. But she got upset and shouted, ‘Can you imagine how he just hit me?’” an eyewitness said.

The argument quickly turned physical, with the student grabbing the lecturer’s clothes. Despite efforts by onlookers to calm the situation, the student bit the lecturer on both arms, leaving visible marks.

A viral video of the incident circulating on social media shows the student shouting at the lecturer while holding onto his clothes, and another clip shows Dr. Michael raising his hands in an attempt to avoid further confrontation.

UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident, saying an investigation is ongoing.

“Yes, there was an incident like that. Investigations are ongoing, and the school will make its position known once we conclude our findings,” Chukwurah said.

He explained that Dr. Michael claimed he overheard the student insulting him after he passed by. He returned to confirm if she was his student and reportedly asked her to delete the video, fearing he had been captured in it. This led to the altercation.

Sources revealed that the student is a 300-level History and International Studies student and the daughter of a lecturer in UNIZIK’s Engineering Department.

The university has promised to take appropriate action after the investigation.
