A female student of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, who was involved in an altercation with a lecturer, has shared her side of the story and asked for forgiveness.

The student was earlier seen in viral videos biting, slapping, and tearing the clothes of Dr. Chukwudi Michael, a lecturer in the university.

In a post circulating on X, the student explained what led to the incident, saying she never intended to disrespect her lecturer but acted out of fear and frustration.

According to her, the event happened around 11 a.m. when she was recording a video with her friend along a lecture room hallway.

“This morning, around 11 a.m., I was recording a quick video with a friend along my lecture room hallway when, out of nowhere, I felt a push from my left side, accompanied by a curt ‘excuse me,’” she stated.

She said she initially thought it was another student but turned around to see a man, whom she later realized was a lecturer. Feeling disrespected, she whispered to her friend about the encounter.

“Before I could even process what had just happened, someone tried to grab my phone from behind. I held on tight, exclaiming in shock, and turned around to see the same man who had pushed me earlier,” she added.

The student claimed the lecturer tried to forcefully take her phone, causing it to fall and break during the struggle. She further alleged that the lecturer held her chest area, which made her feel violated.

“I was devastated and still lamenting in pain as I picked up the pieces of my shattered phone. But the situation took a dark turn when the lecturer grasped my breast region. I was left stunned, trying to comprehend the horror unfolding before me,” she explained.

In an attempt to free herself, she said she bit the lecturer’s hand and accidentally tore his clothes while struggling.

“I’m still shaken by the events that transpired. I never intended to disrespect a lecturer; I was acting under duress, protecting my dignity and interests as a woman. I’m deeply sorry for my reactions, and I hope that somehow, someway, this situation can be resolved peacefully,” she said.

Her apology comes shortly after Dr. Michael also shared his version of the incident, claiming he had only asked the student to delete a video she was recording, fearing he had been captured in it.

UNIZIK’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to uncover the full details of the matter.
