Unilorin student breaks world record with longest maths lesson

A 400-level Mathematics student at the University of Ilorin, Kazeem Sanusi, has made history by setting a new global record for the longest Mathematics lesson.

Sanusi taught Mathematics non-stop for 31 hours, 42 minutes, and 54 seconds, beating the previous Guinness World Record of 26 hours. The event took place on the university campus in Ilorin, Kwara State.

According to a statement by the university’s Director of Information, Kunle Akogun, the achievement was witnessed by representatives of the Guinness World Records.

“Kazeem performed the feat to the cheers of a captivated audience led by the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN,” the statement said.

Other senior university officials present included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Fawole; Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla; Dean of Physical Sciences, Prof. Abdullahi Alafara Baba; Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Alex Akanmu; and the Student Union President, Comrade Victor Agezeh.

Kazeem is now waiting for official confirmation from Guinness World Records.

Speaking on the achievement, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Egbewole praised the student and described the record as a source of pride for the university.

He said, “The University is immensely proud of the feat of Kazeem, and we will continue to encourage others to find their passion and pursue it.”

Prof. Egbewole also said he hoped the university’s support for students would continue to inspire many to aim higher.

“With the enabling environment we are providing, we believe more students will break barriers and keep putting the name of the university in gold,” he added.
