The University of Lagos, Akoka, has officially banned skitmaking, content creation, and other video recording activities within its campus and hostels without prior approval.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Head of Communication, Mrs Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem. She said the decision followed reports of increased use of university facilities for unapproved video productions, including comedy skits, vox pops, and film shoots.

“The attention of the University Management has been drawn to the rising use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films, videos, skits, and similar cinematographic activities without proper authorisation,” the statement read in part.

According to the institution, the move aims to protect UNILAG’s image, preserve discipline within the academic environment, and prevent the misuse or misrepresentation of the university’s premises in online or public content.

The school said that anyone — whether a student, staff member, or external party — must obtain written permission from the Communication Unit before carrying out any recording or production on campus.

While the university acknowledged the importance of creativity and media engagement, it stressed that such activities must follow its regulations to ensure order and safety.

UNILAG urged students, staff, and the public to comply with the new rule in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.
