Lecturers at the University of Jos have stopped work over the delay in the payment of their June 2025 salary.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Jos branch, announced the strike in a statement released on Friday, saying the action would continue until the salary is paid.
The chairperson of the union, Jurbe Molwus, explained that the decision followed an earlier agreement that lecturers would withdraw their services if salaries were not paid by the third day of a new month.
“Dear comrades, this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 pm today, July 3, 2025,” Molwus stated in a message sent to union members.
He added that the strike began at 12:01 am on Friday, July 4.
“This is in line with the extant NEC resolution that branches should take action when salary is not paid by the third day of a new month and our congress resolution of June 4, 2025, affirming this position,” he said.
The union also confirmed that its strike monitoring team has been activated to check compliance among lecturers.
Molwus made it clear that any future delay in salary payments would result in more strikes, according to the national directive.
