Soft drink giants, Coca-Cola and Pepsi, have announced the suspension of business operations in Russia over the countryโ€™s invasion of Ukraine.

The development is coming hours after WuzupNigeria reported that McDonaldโ€™s fast food temporarily closed its 850 restaurants in Russia.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Coca-Cola said, โ€œOur hearts are with the people who are enduring unconscionable effects from these tragic events in Ukraineโ€.

PepsiCo also cited โ€œthe horrific events occurring in Ukraineโ€ as the reason for the suspension of the sales of Pepsi-Cola, 7 Up and other brands, as well as capital investments and advertising in Russia.

According to CBS, PepsiCo noted that it would continue to sell dairy products, including milk, as well as baby food and formula.

โ€œWe will continue to monitor and assess the situation as circumstances evolve,โ€ the statement added.

Starbucks also announced the suspension of its operations in Russia. โ€œOur license partner has agreed to immediately pause store operations and will provide support to the nearly 2,000 partners in Russia who depend on Starbucks for their livelihood,โ€ Kevin Johnson, the companyโ€™s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said in a statement.

โ€œWe condemn the horrific attacks on Ukraine by Russia.โ€

More than 200 US and foreign companies have stopped operations in Russia since its invasion of Ukraine.
