Ukraine: 60 Nigerian evacuees test positive for COVID-19

Published

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Wednesday says 60 of the Nigerians evacuated from Ukraine some days ago have been infected with COVID-19.

The Centre made this known in an update on its official Twitter handle on Wednesday morning.

In the update, out of the 118 fresh cases recorded in the country, FCT have 68, with 60 traced to the returnees from Ukraine.

With the latest figure, Nigeria’s confirmed Covid 19 cases now stands at 254,777 with 249,209 discharged and 3,142 deaths.

Since the Russo-Ukraine war broke out on February 24, there have been reported casualties from both countries.

The hostility forced so many residents of Ukraine and foreign nationals including Nigerians to flee to neighbouring countries.

To aid their seamless evacuation, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) had approved the release of $8.5 million for the immediate evacuation of at least 5,000 Nigerians fleeing the Russian-Ukrainian conflict zone to Poland, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia.
