A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while on bail, with a judge describing him as a “dangerous offender” who posed a high risk to the public .
Olukanyinsola Odebode was convicted at Swansea Crown Court of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration, following offences committed between June 2024 and September 2025 .
The court heard that Odebode sexually assaulted and raped one woman in the Gwent Police area before he was arrested and released on bail. While on bail, he went on to sexually assault another woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area .
Mark Wyeth KC, prosecuting, told the court that Odebode posed a danger to women and that his actions had caused “life-altering consequences for his victims.” He also informed the court that a Probation Service report highlighted Odebode’s lack of insight into his offending and his “complete rejection” of the jury’s findings, concluding that he “poses a high risk of serious harm underpinned by attitudes of entitlement.”
Victim impact statements detailed the devastating effect of Odebode’s actions on the two women, with one victim describing him as “very predatory” and another stating that he had “humiliated and degraded” her .
The court further heard that seven other women had reported concerns about Odebode’s sexual behaviour to police since 2019, including allegations of rape, indecent exposure, sexual assault and stalking, although those matters did not proceed to convictions .
Odebode, of Gainsborough Road, Tredegar, had no previous convictions. His lawyer, Matt Murphy, said it was hoped Odebode would develop greater insight into his offending while serving his sentence .
However, Judge Huw Rees said he had reached the conclusion, based on evidence heard during the trial and reports before the court, that Odebode was a “sexually precocious person” with “an enormous sense of sexual entitlement” who had “profoundly” affected his victims .
Judge Rees ruled that an extended sentence was necessary because of the risk Odebode posed to the public. He was sentenced to a 12-year extended sentence, comprising nine years in custody followed by three years on licence. He must serve two-thirds of the custodial portion before becoming eligible to apply for release, with the Parole Board determining whether he is safe to be released .
Odebode will remain on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life .
