Manchester City have qualified for their first-ever Champions League semifinals under Pep Guardiola after defeating Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their quarter-final match.

City had previously lost three consecutive quarter-finals before now but they were determined to make it past the last eight this time by defeating Dortmund in the first leg at the Etihad last week.

The BVB were relying on the lifeline given by Marco Reus as they host the runaway English Premier League leaders on Wednesday night in Germany.

England international, Jude Bellingham, put the hosts ahead 15 minutes into the game but they could only hold the lead for 55 minutes before the visitors pounced.

City were given a golden opportunity which they did not pass up when Emre Can handled the ball in the BVB 18-yard box, forcing the referee to point to the penalty spot.

Algerian winger, Riyad Mahrez, made the most of the opportunity by scoring to take the scoreline to 1-1 (3-2 on aggregate).

Having regained control of the encounter on aggregate, City sealed the win twenty minutes later with a second goal.

Phil Foden who scored the winner in the first-leg, struck again to finish off the Germans by netting at the 75th minute to take City into their first-ever semifinal in the competition under Guardiola, ending the scoreline 4-2 on aggregate.

City are on course for a quadruple and would face Paris Saint-Germain, who eliminated defending champions, Bayern Munich, in a two-legged semifinal clash for a spot in the final.
