UCL: Conceding two goals in controversial manner against City annoying, Dortmund manager fumes

Published

Borussia Dortmund’s interim manager, Edin Terzic, says his side is not happy with two notable refereeing decisions after Champions League elimination by Manchester City.

The BVB lost the two-legged encounter by 4-2 on aggregate with two defeats home and away but Terzic was aggrieved by two refereeing decisions over both ties.

Dortmund took the lead through Jude Bellingham but Emre Can headed the ball to his hand to give city a penalty, leaving Terzic dissatisfied.

According to Terzic, heading a ball into one’s hand should not be punishable, but the decision went City’s way and Riyad Mahrez converted to get the visitors levelled.

“To be fair, you have to congratulate Man City,” Terzic told Sky Germany. “They played brilliantly and deservedly go one round further.

“After three of four halves, however, we were through – then it’s annoying that we end up conceding two goals like this. At the referee training, it is clearly stated that heading into one’s arm is not punishable.

“Let me put it this way: We weren’t very lucky with decisions in the two games.

“We are not happy with the decisions the referee took over the last eight days in both games. We don’t understand why they don’t use the screen if it is there to help.

“We had a big dream, it is now unfortunately over.

“But this was one piece of the games, Man City deserved to go through to the next round.”

Terzic was however proud of young Jude Bellingham who performed well in both ties.

He said: “The only thing we don’t know about Jude is his limit. He has so much potential and talent.

“He is a great boy who wants to improve. We need to find out what is his limit and try to push him towards this limit. Tonight the whole world saw what he is capable of.”
