UCL: Barcelona crashed out ‘feeling good’ – Koeman

Barcelona manager, Ronald Koeman has reacted to his team’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday night.

The Spanish giants were eliminated by French Champions, Paris Saint Germain, after failing to repeat the memorable encounter against the French club that saw them overturn a four-goal deficit in the second leg of the 2016/2017 UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie.

Kyllian Mbappe’s four goals in both legs ensured revenge for the French side as Lionel Messi failed to lead his side to a possible comeback by missing a penalty on the second leg which ended 1-1 (5-2 on aggregate).

Speaking after the game, Koeman said that despite the defeat, his team bowed out with their heads raised high.

“We are eliminated, but we leave feeling good [about ourselves],” he said.

“We had chances to make things difficult for the opposition. We played a great first half. We were superior, with a great attitude.

“We deserved more, at least, a 1-2 at half time. That would have made all the difference.”

Barcelona have struggled to replace Luis Suarez since selling the Uruguayan to Atletico Madrid in the summer and Koeman admitted that his team weren’t clinical enough following a lot of missed chances.

“It’s true. It’s also not normal to create so many chances against a strong team, like today,” he added.

“We took risks. We had to defend one on one. I think the play without the ball today was phenomenal.

“We need to be more clinical. That’s the difference between us. With a lot less chances [at the Camp Nou], they scored more goals.” [Marca]
