Uber driver slumps, dies while conveying reverend sister in Lagos

A driver with ride-hailing company, Uber, identified as Anthony Okafor has been reported while conveying a nun to an undisclosed destination in Lagos State.

Okafor was said to have picked up the woman from the Ikeja airport of Lagos.

Midway through the journey, report said the Uber driver started coughing and gasping for breath just as they got to the Egbeda area of the state, where he stopped the car.

PUNCH reported that his condition got worsened prompting some good Samaritans to rush him to a nearby hospital.

An anonymous source said “He was rushed to the Talent Hospital in Egbeda, Lagos State, where he was confirmed dead on Saturday, August 21, 2021.”.

The source also said that no mark of violence was found on his body, which has since been deposited in the Mainland General Hospital morgue.

Another source claimed that Okafor’s remains had been released to his family for burial.

He said, “His death could have been caused by stress. His wife was also at the scene of the incident to see things for herself.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the incident, said the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death.

Ajisebutu said, “The deceased suddenly fell sick while driving. He was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention, but was confirmed dead at the hospital.

“Although it is a suspected case of sudden and unnatural death, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that a post-mortem should be carried out to determine the actual cause of death. The case is under investigation.”
