Two traffic robbers disguised as ‘keke’ riders arrested in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected traffic robbers who disguised themselves as Keke (tricycle) riders.

The suspects, identified as Idowu Lukuman and Sadiq Ahmed, were caught at Kola Bus Stop in the Alagbado area of Lagos after the police received a distress call.

According to the police, the suspects were arrested for allegedly stealing a victim’s Itel phone worth ₦70,000. The victim reported that the robbers posed as a Keke rider and a passenger to deceive and rob unsuspecting commuters. Acting on the distress call at exactly 5:29 pm on September 6th, 2024, the Lagos Police patrol unit intercepted the duo, who were operating a Keke with the registration number KJA 637 QM.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and said, “Our officers responded swiftly to the call, which allowed us to apprehend the suspects within minutes. The stolen Itel phone, along with other phones including a Tecno Camon, a Nokia, and a Vivo phone, were recovered from the suspects.”

SP Hundeyin also mentioned that the suspects would be transferred to the appropriate unit for further investigation.

He stressed the command’s commitment to reducing crime rates in the state and urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activities promptly.
