Two suspected thieves burnt to death in Plateau
Two young men suspected to be armed robbers were on Friday burnt to death by unidentified persons in Farin -Gada Community, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau state.
Our Correspondent gathered that residents of the area woke up in the morning on Friday to find the remains of the two victims at the ECWA Staff junction with parts of their bodies burnt.
A tricycle rider in the community, Mr John David who confirmed the incident told our Correspondent in Jos on Friday that the incident caused tension in the community.
David said:
“I was just doing my job in the morning when I saw some people gathering at the ECWA staff junction. On getting to the place, I saw two young men lying on the ground dead. Parts of their heads and necks were burnt. And when I enquired what happened, the people who gathered said that the victims were thieves. But nobody could tell what they stole or the people who might have set them ablaze.”
Another resident, Chuwang Paul who corroborated David’s account added:
“What happened to the young men was strange. I woke up to hear that two people caught stealing were burnt and dumped at the roadside near the ECWA junction and when I rushed to the place, I discovered that it was true. The news actually raised tension in the community but later, some policemen came to the scene and evacuated the two corpses.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Ubah Ogaba, when contacted also confirmed the incident.
Ogaba said that the two men were suspected robbers and cultists and were mobbed by unknown persons adding that the state police command had begun investigation to unravel those behind the killings
He said “They (victims) were suspected cultists and robbers that specialize in phone snatching. They were mobbed and killed. Police is on the matter to unravel those involved in the killing.”
