Two herders, Abubakar Lawal, 18, and Ibrahim Abubakar, 20, were on Monday arraigned before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of a cow valued at N700,000.
The defendants, said to be residents of Odirin village in Ido area of Ibadan, are facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting counsel, Insp. Iyabo Oladoyin, informed the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on February 12 at about 5:00 a.m. in Kaguo village, also within the Ido area of Ibadan.
She told the court that the accused acted in concert with others who are currently at large.
Oladoyin alleged that the cow, valued at N700,000, belonged to Yusuf Ibrahim and was taken from his residence.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences contravene Sections 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
In her ruling, Magistrate T. G. Daodu granted each defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety each in like sum.
The case was subsequently adjourned until March 16 for hearing.
