Three suspected fake medical practitioners – Dr. Patrick Effiong, Dr. Williams Biranwi and Gift Harvest – have been reportedly apprehended in Andoni Local Government Council in Rivers State.
PM Express reports that the suspects, two males posing as doctors and a female who claimed to be an auxiliary nurse, were picked up following a tip-off from the head of medical personnel in the local government.
Reacting to the development, Andoni Council Chairman, Erastus Awortu, said the suspects were on illegal medical mission to the local government without proof of qualifications.
Awortu said the suspects who are quacks had even performed surgeries on some unsuspecting victims before they were caught.
While condemning the act, Awortu said the suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation with a view to uncovering their true intention.
The local government chairman also called on the residents of Andoni to be vigilant as criminals seeking to exploit the unsuspecting public can go to any length including endangering the lives of people to achieve their illegitimate and awful intentions.
As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to react to the arrest of the alleged impersonators.
