Tragedy struck in the Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State as phone torchlight sparks explosion, killing two persons.
The PUNCH reports that the explosion which occurred around Nwanniba Road in the area ignited when a tenant used his phone for illumination while trying to cook.
A source said that the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 6.
He added that the 21-year-old tenant did not know that the gas was leaking when he struck the match.
However, The Director of the Akwa Ibom State Fire Service, Ubong Umoh, on Wednesday, said the explosion was caused by the phone torchlight.
He said, “Two persons were killed in the gas explosion and it happened because one of them was using a phone light.
“This is what we in the fire department have been preaching against that people should not use phone lights near gas cookers.”
