Two cousins were fatally shot by unidentified gunmen in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, South Africa, leaving the local community in mourning.
The victims, identified as Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21), were found early on Sunday morning, October 26, 2025, with gunshot wounds to the head on Sompisi Street in Extension 17.
According to Captain Johan van Dyk, spokesperson for the South African Police Service in Mamelodi East, officers were alerted to the scene at around 6:15 a.m. following a distress call.
Upon arrival, they discovered the two women lying motionless.
“The victims were both wearing similar clothing, indicating they were together before the incident. A double murder case has been opened, and investigations are ongoing,” said van Dyk.
The motive behind the shooting has not yet been established. Police are appealing to members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying the perpetrators.
Family members expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. Itumeleng Moramaga, mother of Tshiamo, said the loss had left her heartbroken.
“I’m so hurt. I’m shattered because she was the only daughter I had. I’m now left with two sons,” she said tearfully.
Residents reported hearing arguments followed by gunshots at around 4 a.m., shortly before the bodies were discovered.
Investigators have since found a message on Baleseng’s phone suggesting the cousins had been in communication shortly before the incident, while Tshiamo’s phone was missing and may have been stolen.
Police have urged anyone with information related to the shooting to contact their nearest SAPS office or call the national Crime Stop hotline.
