A tanker driver and his conductor were burnt to death on Thursday as a liquefied petroleum gas laden truck exploded in Delta State.
The accident which occurred around 2:25 am on Thursday happened in the Ohoro community along the East-West road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to witnesses, the accident was caused by an auto crash involving a truck carrying granite and a stationary truck said to be carrying diesel at the popular Ohoro Junction of Uwheru Kingdom.
The gas laden truck ran into the fire that already erupted from the diesel truck.
Thousands of the villagers have been reportedly rendered homeless as properties including vehicles and buildings worth hundreds of millions of naira were also razed down in disaster.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe said that from the report he got, “it’s one that died”.
Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has visited the scene of the gas tanker explosion where he commiserated with Ohoro Uwheru community over their loss.
The Governor was accompanied by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; Secretary to the State Government, chief Patrick Ukah; the Local Government Council Chairmen, Godwin Adobe and Coach Tete, among others.
