Nigerian Instagram comedian Freedom Atsepoyi popularly known as Mr. Jollof has incurred the wrath of social media users over his ‘insensitive’ comment on the tragic death of former NBA star, Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter.
Kobe, his daughter Gigi and others died in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
Reacting to the Basketball star’s death, Mr Jollof took to his Instagram page to share a video insinuating that the 41-year-old star was responsible for his own death over what he spent his money on.
He blamed Kobe for buying a helicopter, saying his death would serve as a deterrent to those who buy certain things when they become rich
He said:
“Helicopter wey dem use take go run all star matter na him don kill them so, Basketball wey him dey play no kill am, na wetin dem use their money buy based on lifestyle na him kill Kobe Bryant so.
“This na message to most of una wey dey make am for life una go go buy wetin go kill una.“
The viral video which he has since deleted has sparked criticisms from Nigerians on social media who described his comments as insensitive at a time the world is mourning the unfortunate loss of the former LA Lakers basketball player.
Reacting to the footage, career development expert, Dr Dipo Awojide tweeted:
Mr Jollof is just ignorant and unexposed. Claims Kobe and Leicester city owner both bought what killed them – their lifestyle killed them.
I wonder how he gets to Lagos from Delta state. He made that video inside a car too.

Mr Jollof’s comments about Kobe Bryant’s death were incredibly distasteful. 30 seconds of absolute stupidity caught on camera and preserved for all time.

Mr Jollof said something insensitive but deleted it few minutes into posting it.
Either he realized how stupid he was to have posted such or his friends that have sense called him to order.
But y’all wont stop posting what the poster has deleted just for RTs?
You are all mad.

Mr Jollof thinks Kobe died because he “use his hands buy the thing wey kill am”
Same Mr Jollof shared the post from a car. If he had an accident in that car, he would expect sympathy, but Kobe deserves none because Kobe had his accident in a chopper.
Premium Poverty Reasoning.

Mr Jollof, Thelma and all other watery brains needs to understand that if there’s no point to celebrate someone, then it’s pointless to do so
And they also need to know that faking love for clout and mourning departed souls are two different things

Its surprising that Mr Jollof thinks only expensive things are capable of killing you.
I’ve heard of situations where Kerosene Stove and power bank killed people but let’s ignore that. The fact he still feels he’s right even after deleting the video is sickening. So unnecessary?— Tife? (@Tife_fabunmi) January 27, 2020
Mr Jollof is one of the most senseless individuals that has got the attention of everyone.
He likes being controversial to be noticed.
Using someone’s death in clout chasing is totally unacceptable.
I told him all of this and he blocked me but I’m sure this won’t be his last. pic.twitter.com/1WTz9p1U7T— LawrenceOkoroNGR? (@LawrenceOkoroTL) January 27, 2020
Mr Jollof kept reiterating Kobe’s lifestyle killed him meaning the helicopter he bought with his own money killed him while he was in a car too, funny innit !
That video got to be the most unnecessary thing in 2020 and it’s just Jan
