Twitter users school Goal.com with Sergio Ramos stats after post ‘overhyping’ Van Dijk

Football news website Goal.com seems to have taken their hyping of Liverpool’s defender and European Footballer of the Year, Virgil van Dijk rather too far on Thursday morning and are presently being educated by fans on microblogging site Twitter.

Goal had taken to their verified Twitter handle to share a short video of Van Dijk scoring a header for Liverpool in a Premier League match and captioned:

“Is there a better goalscoring centre half than VVD?” and added the thinking emoji.

The caption angered football fans on Twitter who lambasted the platform and started reeling out the achievements and statistics of Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

The post diminishes the achievements of Sergio Ramos and other top defenders in the world, the fans argued.

The 33-year-old Spaniard has scored 100 career goals for clubs and country.

Since joining Madrid in 2005 from Sevilla, Ramos has won 21 major honours, including four La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League titles, becoming one of La Liga’s top goalscorers from a defensive position.

One of his most notable goals was his equalizer in the 93rd minute of the 2014 UEFA Champions League Final against Atletico Madrid.

The goal helped Real as they went ahead to win the Champions League that year on penalties.
