Nigerian have taken to Twitter to share their opinion on the Nigerian Communications Commission’s order to block SIM cards not registered to National Identity Numbers, NIN.
The NCC made the announcement of Tuesday, coming less than a week after it ordered the suspension of SIM card sale and registration nationwide.

The directives has attracted different reactions from Nigerians as some lament lack of NIN due to non-issuance of a National ID Card after registration, while some complain that the deadline given for the registration is short, given the current state of things with the COVID-19.
Meanwhile, While some questioned the need for NIN if there’s already a BVN data, some just took time to flood the timeline with memories of the difficulties they went through while registering for the National ID.
Popular media personality, Gbemi Olateru Olagbegi via her verified Twitter handle @GbemiOO said: “I genuinely look forward to the day that every Nigerian can get the simple things like a passport , a drivers license , National ID card etc without knowing someone on the inside or greasing any palms . No stress /waiting for months .”
@a_nickabugu reminded that “There’s a pandemic. People are travelling for the holidays. Queues at registration centers for NIN are always very long. Those that registered for their NIN four years ago have not been issued national ID cards till date. But does any of this matter to a Nigerian politician? No.”

Another user – @ayemojubar questioned: “Why should I tie all my lines to your National ID, NIN? Is the data registered against each mobile no. not enough to auto-generate my NIN? How about BVN data?
“Don’t mind them, it’s the registration and enquiry fees they wanted to harvest again that is driving the vision.”

“My fingerprints were taken when I got my National ID Number, my driver’s licence, my BVN and when I was registering my SIM card. Yet I still need to go in person to link these things? I hate this country,” @Boboye_Ak lamented.
@latifat_mercy said, “I did national id card since 2015 till now they didn’t give me they were telling me i look like someone in my family with the same name.”
