The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, incurred the wrath of social media users on Tuesday over his reaction to the violent protest in Sagamu area of the state on Monday.

Abiodun in a state address had claimed that the protesters who took to the streets of Sagamu over the killing of Remo Stars’ Football Club assistant captain Kazeem Tiyamiyu aka Kaka, attempted to attack the divisional police station and set out to loot local banks.

According to the governor, the protesters went against the promise to exercise restraint and set out to disturb public peace.

The governor accused the protesters of aiming to aggravate an already tense situation in which attempts to destroy the police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) were carried out, leading to fatalities.

He thereafter threatened the protesters and advised that parents should caution their children against confronting security agents as government attempts to restore normalcy in the state.

A video of the governor’s press conference emerged on Twitter on Tuesday morning and riled up netizens who slammed Abiodun for lacking empathy.
