Police operatives in Ogun State have arrested Kehinde Yemitan, a suspect in a murder case involving the killing and dismembering of a commercial sex worker, Darasimi, in Abeokuta.
Kehinde, who had been on the run, was apprehended in the Ilogbo Ota community on Monday, December 30, 2024.
The arrest follows the earlier detention of Kehinde’s twin brother, Taiwo, and another suspect, Kazeem, on December 22.
According to the Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the twins lured the victim to their residence under false pretenses before killing her for alleged ritual purposes.
Odutola revealed that intelligence efforts led to Kehinde’s capture. “On December 30, 2024, at about 5 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer of Sango Otta received a tip from a volunteer informant that Kehinde Yemitan was hiding in the Ilogbo community,” she said.
The police, in collaboration with the So Safe Corps, launched a manhunt and successfully apprehended Kehinde. During questioning, he admitted to conspiring with his brother and Kazeem in the gruesome crime.
“Several community members also confirmed his involvement in criminal activities,” Odutola added.
Kehinde has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
The police also issued a warning to young women, urging them to avoid engaging in casual relationships for financial gain, popularly known as “hookups.” Odutola emphasized the dangers of prostitution and called for greater public awareness to prevent similar tragedies.
“A further appeal goes to the teeming young females to see this unfortunate incident as a big lesson and be cautious not to fall victim to another ritual killing,” she said.
