The Turkish government has pledged its support for Nigeria in the ongoing fight against terrorism following recent attacks in parts of Kwara State.

The commitment was contained in a statement issued by Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its official X handle on Thursday, in reaction to the terrorist attacks carried out on Tuesday in the Worro and Nuku communities of the state.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, at least 170 residents were killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents, reportedly for refusing to embrace the group’s extremist ideology.

In its reaction, the Turkish government expressed deep sorrow over the killings, condemned the violence, and conveyed its sympathies to the Nigerian government and families affected by the attacks.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives caused by the terrorist attack that took place in Nigeria’s Kwara state.

“We strongly condemn this heinous attack and extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the people of Nigeria.

“Türkiye will continue to support Nigeria in its fight against terrorism,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate deployment of an army battalion to the affected area to launch counter-offensive operations against the attackers.
