Members of the Trade Union Congress, Lagos chapter, on Monday, stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly to protest over the September, 2022, suspension of activities of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria.

The state government has described the planned protest by TUC as a breach of the rule of law, noting that it is an attempt to arm-twist and intimidate the government.

However, the aggrieved members stormed the Lagos Assembly Complex, Alausa, Ikeja on Monday, displaying placards with various inscriptions.

They stormed the assembly complex in their large numbers, chanting solidarity songs.

The protest comes after the Lagos State Government suspended RTEAN activities in September 2022, following a clash between two factions of the union.

The government also set up a an ad-hoc caretaker committee to manage the state’s parks and garages under the control of RTEAN.

The TUC has called on the state government to reinstate RTEAN activities, arguing that the suspension is illegal and has caused hardship for its members.

The Lagos State Government has said that it is open to dialogue with the TUC, but that the union must suspend its protest and allow the ad-hoc caretaker committee to complete its work.

Recall that Wuzup Nigeria reported that the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, in an earlier statement referred to the protest as “unnecessary” and a breach of rule of law
