Axel Tuanzebe scored an own goal late in the game as Leicester City held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw at the King Power Stadium on Boxing Day.
Both teams kicked it off with quick tests to their respective defenses but it was Marcus Rashford who missed an absolute sitter with a poor header in the opening minutes of the game.
United almost committed a blunder in the eighth minute after David De Gea clumsily spewed a back pass to the feet of an opponent but they were saved by a timely block from a red shirt.
Rashford made amends for his earlier miss in the 23rd minute after Dan James paced through Leicester’s defense, leaving Bruno Fernandes with a stretched pass to Rashford who buried the ball past Kasper Schmeichel.
It would be the first time United will draw the first blood in an away match this season as they seek their 11th consecutive away win having won the previous matches from behind.
Leicester pulled level through Harvey Barnes in the 31st minute after a mistake from Fernandes gave the home side possession close to the United box. Barnes belted it in from outside the box.
With both teams chasing the second spot on the Premier League log, they settled for a 1-1 draw after the first 45 minute.
Leicester got a cheap freekick in a dangerous position the 52nd minute after Fred mistakenly caught Bailly’s hand with the ball but James Maddison was denied a possible goal by the United wall.
United almost took the lead in the 60th minute but Rashford missed another chance by shooting directly at Schmeichel who would later be beaten by Anthony Martial moments later but the goal was ruled out by VAR after for offside.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, however, got their lead back in the 79th minute thanks to a brilliant pass from substitute Edinson Cavani, finding Fernandes who hit it past Schmeichel to make it 2-1.
With barely five minutes to regular time, United were caught napping and Jamie Vardy found the back of the net to make it 2-2 with his 12th goal of the season. It was later ruled as an own goal as the ball went in after hitting Tuanzebe.
Leicester almost stole the game with two minutes left on added time but Ayoze Perez failed to convert a chance which would have been ruled out for offside.
Both teams had to settle for a draw, the home side’s first of the season, after referee Mike Dean decided he has had enough of the game after added time.
Leicester are now second on the table with 28 points while United remain third with 27points and a game at hand, four behind league leaders, Liverpool.
