Following the impeachment of the President of United States, Donald Trump, some Nigerians have taken to social media to call for the impeachment of his Nigerian counterpart, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)

Trump was impeached by the U.S House on Wednesday after a marathon debate on the floor of the House, though he remains the president pending the decision of the Senate where he is expected to be tried and either convicted or acquited.

Conviction and removal of the U.S president require 67 votes, Republicans hold a 53-47 edge in the chamber.

Tweeting with the hashtag #ImpeachBuhari, some Nigerian Twitter users are saying Buhari has committed more impeachable offences and deserves to be removed as president.

Some Twitter users, however, likened the call for Buhari’s impeachment to a race in a circle that will not yield any result.

They argued that aside from having majority lawmakers, the present National Assembly is under the full grasp of Buhari and does not have the balls to challenge Buhari’s regime.
