Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, vowing to enforce strict immigration policies and deport millions of people who entered the country illegally.
During his inauguration speech on January 20, 2025, at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, Trump promised that his administration would take bold actions to secure America’s borders.
“All illegal entries will immediately be halted, and we will begin the process of returning millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came,” he said. Trump also announced plans to reinstate his controversial “Remain in Mexico” policy and declared that he would rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”
Trump, 78, who was joined by his Vice President JD Vance, 40, also pledged to uphold traditional values and protect freedom of speech. “America will not forget our God,” he said. “We will bring free speech back to America.”
The inauguration was attended by four former US presidents, including his predecessor Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton. Notably, Michelle Obama did not attend the event, while Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush were present.
Trump’s family, cabinet members, and some of the world’s most influential business figures, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Sundar Pichai, were also in attendance.
Trump, who first took office as a political outsider in 2017, returns to the presidency with a focus on implementing his firm policies. This time, he stands surrounded by America’s elite and influential leaders.
Biden, who had been critical of Trump in the past, attended the inauguration to restore the tradition of peaceful transitions of power, contrasting Trump’s absence from Biden’s 2021 inauguration.
