United States President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order on Wednesday that will ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, the White House has announced.

The “No Men in Women’s Sports Executive Order” will be signed in a ceremony at 3:00 pm (2000 GMT) as part of Trump’s campaign promise to take action on transgender participation in sports.

White House Deputy Press Secretary, Anna Kelly, confirmed the move in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), saying:

“Today, President Trump will deliver on his promise to PROTECT WOMEN’S SPORTS!”

She added that the order would “end the dangerous and unfair participation of men in women’s sports.”

Trump had frequently spoken about the issue during his election campaign, criticizing Democratic rival Kamala Harris for her support of transgender rights.

Since returning to office on January 20, Trump has signed several executive orders targeting transgender policies. These include banning transgender troops from the military and restricting gender transition procedures for people under age 19.

His latest order follows a January vote by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, which passed a bill severely restricting transgender athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s sports.

The issue has been a major topic in US politics, with many Republicans arguing that allowing transgender women to compete in female sports is unfair.
