Truck loses control kills 14 worshippers in Kano

Tragedy struck as a moving truck lost control and killed at least 14 worshippers on Friday, in Imawa town, Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
The accident occurred along the Zaria-Kano highway shortly after Friday prayers.
The incident happened when a trailer, coming from the Kaduna axis with the number plate MKA 537XN, lost control and ran into the worshippers.
The Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed the accident in a statement issued by the Corps spokesperson, Abdullahi Labaran.
The statement noted that the accident was reported around 1:50 pm. “Upon receiving the distress call, FRSC Kano State Command promptly dispatched personnel to the scene, alongside other security agencies, to initiate rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured victims,” the statement read.
Abdullahi mentioned that nine of the deceased were buried on Friday afternoon, and those injured are receiving treatment at a hospital. The driver of the trailer is currently at large.
Abdullahi emphasized the FRSC’s commitment to road safety and urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies. “The Sector Commander extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased,” the statement read.
