Troops of the Nigerian military under Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered an underground Boko Haram logistics base stocked with fuel, medical supplies and other materials in Borno State.

The discovery followed intelligence-driven operations carried out on Sunday against terrorist hideouts in the Timbuktu Triangle axis, including Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma communities.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sani, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday.

According to him, the offensive was conducted as part of Operation Desert Sanity and resulted in the destruction of several terrorist camps belonging to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Operation HADIN KAI, have recorded further operational successes in the ongoing Operation DESERT SANITY, destroying multiple terrorist camps, recovering arms and equipment, and repelling coordinated attacks by the insurgents in the Timbuktu Triangle,” the statement said.

Sani explained that the troops advanced from their locations on January 18, 2026, and carried out well-coordinated assaults on identified terrorist enclaves.

He added that the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided support to the ground forces through sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering throughout the operation.

“The air-ground synergy enabled real-time tracking of terrorist movements, deterred adversary reinforcement, and enhanced the precision and confidence of ground operations,” he said.

During the operation, troops recovered a cache of weapons and other items, including communication devices, ammunition and military equipment.

According to Sani, the items recovered included “Baofeng radios, phones, five AK-47 magazines, several rounds of 7.62 × 39mm special ammunition and 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition.”

He said other items discovered were “several Boko Haram/ISWAP flags, links of 12.7 × 108 mm ammunition, diesel powered grinding machines, large quantity of medical supplies, several bags of grains, pick-up truck, underground logistics storage and petroleum and oil lubricant dump.”
Sani noted that the recovery of the items significantly disrupted the terrorists’ logistics and operational capacity.

He also disclosed that troops came under drone attacks during the mission.

“At about midday, the advancing troops came under armed drone attacks launched by the terrorists,” he said.

He added, “Despite this, the troops maintained momentum and continued the offensives. A second drone attack attempted in the evening was also decisively repelled, forcing the terrorists to withdraw and reaffirming the troops’ dominance of the area.”

Sani said the morale of the troops remains high, although the security situation in the area remains volatile.

“The general security situation in the area is assessed as calm but unpredictable, with troops remaining vigilant and at a high state of readiness,” he stated.

He further said the military leadership remains determined to sustain the operation with the aim of eliminating terrorist elements, safeguarding civilians and restoring lasting peace in the North-East.
