Nigerian soldiers under Operation Hadin Kai have stopped planned terrorist attacks on Buratai and Mallam Fatori communities in Borno State.

The Nigerian Army said the attacks happened on Thursday, June 5, and were pushed back with the help of air support and strong firepower from ground troops.

Captain Reuben Kovangiya, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the development in a statement.

“In yet another coordinated effort by the ground forces and Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), scores of terrorists have been neutralised, with assorted arms and ammunition recovered, in a foiled attack on troops in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area, and Mallam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State,” he said.

He explained that the terrorists tried to enter the army base in Buratai from different directions, but soldiers responded immediately with heavy gunfire. The military aircraft also supported the ground troops.

“The failed attack on Buratai occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 5, 2025, when the terrorists attempted to deceitfully infiltrate troops’ location from all approaches. The troops, however, swiftly engaged the terrorists with heavy gunfire, while the Air Component provided close air support to the gallant troops,” he said.

After the gun battle, many bodies of terrorists were found. Soldiers also recovered many weapons, including AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine Guns, and Rocket Propelled Grenades.

Kovangiya said the soldiers chased the terrorists as they were running away and killed more of them.

He added, “The coordinated efforts of the ground forces and Air Component demonstrate the military’s commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action.”

The military said the operation is still ongoing as troops continue to search the area and provide more air patrols to stop any further attacks.
