Nigerian troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN have rescued five kidnapped people and arrested three suspects at Boto Forest in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This was revealed in a statement by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Media Information Officer of Operation SAFE HAVEN, on Tuesday.
According to him, the rescued victims are Abdullahi Saleh, 38, Blessed Haruna, 17, Mary Nuhu, 32, Charity Nuhu, 35, and Abubakar Wakili, 25.
Zhakom said the troops chased the kidnappers and arrested three suspects — Abubakar Shehu, 30, Mohammed Sani, 20, and Adamu Mohammed, 25.
“Further search of the area led to the recovery of one fabricated revolver rifle, nine rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two mobile phones, two machetes, 32 stolen cows, and a cash sum of N521,000, suspected to be proceeds from ransom collected,” he said.
The statement added that the rescued victims were questioned by the troops and reunited with their families, while one person who had machete wounds was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Zhakom also noted that the arrested suspects are in custody and are giving useful information to help the troops track down other members of the kidnapping gang.
He assured the public that the military will continue its efforts to ensure the safety of the people and bring criminals to justice.
