Troops of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services have foiled an attack by suspected terrorists during a security operation in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Security sources revealed that the operation was carried out at about 2:50 a.m. on May 14 after intelligence reports pointed to the movement of suspected terrorists around Lugu village.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed in a post on X that the troops engaged the armed suspects in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing them to retreat towards the Bafarawa axis.

After the confrontation, security personnel reportedly launched follow-up operations in the Danzanke area of Modachi village as well as along the riverside close to a damaged bridge within the community.

During the operation, troops rescued a civilian who had sustained gunshot wounds.

“The injured victim was evacuated for medical attention, while security operatives continued clearance and patrol operations across the affected communities to track the fleeing suspects and prevent further terrorist activities,” the sources said.
