Troops neutralise three terrorists, recover arms in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2 under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed three suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a fighting patrol in Zamfara State.

The operation was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

According to the statement, the military operation was conducted on May 7 across Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas as part of sustained efforts to restrict the movement of terrorists operating within the state.

The statement explained that the troops came under attack by armed terrorists at Doumbourum Village, where “a fierce firefight ensued.” It added that the soldiers responded with superior firepower, overwhelming the assailants and forcing them to retreat with casualties.

Items recovered after the operation included “one AK-47 rifle, one machine gun, one locally fabricated handgun, seven rifle magazines and a total of 571 rounds of ammunition.”

The task force further stated that no soldier was injured or killed during the encounter.

Describing the operation as part of ongoing offensives against terrorism and criminality in the North-West, the task force said the achievements recorded by the troops demonstrated “their unwavering commitment, resilience, and professionalism.”

Residents were also encouraged to continue assisting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing security operations across the region.
