Troops of 232 Battalion Zuru while on clearance patrol on Wednesday killed three armed bandits at Tunga Daji in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
This was contained in a release issued on Thursday by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu.
He said during the fierce battle some of the bandits escaped with gunshot wounds to the top of high ground close to the area.
Brigadier General Chukwu listed weapons recovered from the bandits to include; 5 AK 47 assault rifles, one Light machine gun, 5 magazines of AK 47 rifle and 35 rounds of 7,62mm special ammunition.
He said the army lost one officer and a soldier during the encounter, adding that the remains of the fallen heroes have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Center Gusau.
Brigadier General Chukwu further disclosed that troops deployed at Bena acted on a tip-off and raided bandits camp at Laka Village in Kebbi State. He said one bandit was also killed during the operation and one AK 47 rifle with a magazine was recovered.
He added that troops have been mobilised on a special operation to comb the general area and arrest any fleeing bandit.
