Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have killed a suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a military operation in Taraba State.

The Army shared this in a statement on Wednesday, May 14, through the brigade’s Acting Spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde. He said the incident happened during a clearance operation in the Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

“Acting promptly on the Commander’s directive, troops on a fighting patrol along the Bandawa–Karim Lamido road encountered armed criminals,” Olubodunde said.

“In a swift and decisive exchange of fire, the soldiers neutralised one bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.”

The action came shortly after the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, visited the Bandawa community. During the visit, he spoke about the need for more military presence in the area to stop attacks and protect lives.

Captain Olubodunde added that the operation showed the Army’s strong commitment to removing criminals and restoring peace in Taraba State.

In another development, the Army said a peace meeting was held on May 12, 2025, between communities in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba, and Jato Aka in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

The meeting was to stop the frequent clashes that have led to attacks on travellers along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka road.

The 6 Brigade urged people in the area to continue sharing useful and timely information to help their security efforts.

“The Nigerian Army remains dedicated to peace and security across Taraba and will not relent in its mission,” Olubodunde added.
