Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists on their base in Mallam Fatori, Borno State.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the operation, the insurgents launched the assault around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, targeting the Forward Operating Base in Kangar with armed drones and mortar fire.
In the statement, shared on the Nigerian Army’s official Facebook page, Uba said, “The troops, reinforced by the Main Force from Sector 3, displayed exceptional gallantry and tactical superiority to defeat the assault.”
Despite coming under heavy fire and drone bombardments, the soldiers reportedly held their ground and launched a strong counterattack, supported by Nigerien fighter jets. The terrorists were eventually forced to retreat into the Tumbun waterways, leaving behind several dead and wounded members.
Following the clash, troops recovered six bodies of the insurgents, along with five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, over 250 rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades, drone bombs, hand grenades, and an Android phone. Uba further disclosed that subsequent airstrikes by both Nigerian and Nigerien air forces neutralised additional fleeing terrorists.
Some soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) sustained minor injuries during the encounter. They have since been evacuated for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The military added that follow-up operations are ongoing to pursue the fleeing terrorists and prevent further attacks. It noted that the troops remain in high spirits and continue to maintain control in the area.
The Defence Headquarters commended the troops for their courage and professionalism, reaffirming the military’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security across the North East.
