Troops of the Nigerian Army have stopped a planned bandit attack in Taraba State in a well-coordinated operation, arresting two suspects and recovering weapons.
The Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, confirmed this in a statement on Thursday.
According to Oni, the troops of 6 Brigade, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), acted on “credible intelligence regarding an impending terrorist attack on some villages.” He said, “The troops successfully thwarted a planned banditry attack within the southern part of Taraba State.”
On December 11, 2024, the troops carried out aggressive patrols, ambushes, and covert operations to stop the attack. During the operation, they arrested two suspects, identified as Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, in Adu village. The suspects were allegedly trying to enter Chachanji market to carry out crimes such as kidnapping.
The operation also led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing investigation to uncover more details about their network and activities.
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their vigilance and quick response, which ensured the success of the operation. He said, “The Nigerian Army will remain committed to fighting terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities to protect the people of Taraba State.”
General Uwa also thanked law-abiding citizens for their support and timely information, encouraging them to continue cooperating with security agencies. “Together, we will continue to work towards a safer and more secure nation,” he added.
