Troops of the 6 Brigade, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, have destroyed several bandit camps and recovered weapons during clearance operations in Taraba State.
The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, revealed this in a statement issued in Jalingo on Sunday.
He said the operation, known as Operation Golden Peace, was launched under the leadership of Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa. It followed weeks of confidence-building patrols, clearance missions, and stakeholder engagements.
“The operation, which started on November 28, 2024, targeted bandit and terrorist hideouts around the Lijam High Ground in Takum Local Council,” Oni stated.
During the mission, troops destroyed multiple bandit camps and recovered items, including 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, a handheld Baofeng radio, and two motorcycles.
Oni added that the operations continued in the Akume and Ananum areas of Donga Local Council on November 30, 2024, as part of efforts to ensure the safety of residents and secure the state.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa commended the troops for their dedication and urged them to stay vigilant.
“Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” Uwa said. “This is our determined effort to provide a safe environment for the ongoing farm harvest season, the forthcoming yuletide, and to prevent the state from becoming a safe haven for criminals.”
The army reassured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
