Troops of Operation Safe Haven have arrested two men suspected to be gunrunners and kidnappers in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The suspects, Yahaya Adamu and Saeedu Haruna, were caught during a joint operation between the army and a security intelligence agency. The operation was based on information gathered from intelligence sources.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the spokesman for Operation Safe Haven, Major Nantip Zhakom, Adamu was first arrested on May 10 in Barakin Gangare. His arrest led to a second operation on May 11 in Marit Mazat, also in Barkin Ladi, where Haruna was captured.
During the operation, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a loaded AK-47 magazine, and an itel phone.
Zhakom explained, “The operation was carried out in the early hours of Sunday, following the arrest of Yahaya Adamu. In the follow-up raid, we arrested Saeedu Haruna, who is well-known for gunrunning and kidnapping.”
He added that early investigations show the suspects and their group were behind several crimes in Plateau and nearby areas of Kaduna State, including Gashish, Kurra Falls, Gwantu, and Fadan Karshe.
The army said the suspects are already giving useful information and efforts are ongoing to arrest more members of the group and recover other weapons.
“The joint task force appreciates the support of the people and encourages them to continue giving helpful information so that troops can find and stop criminals faster,” the statement said.
Security officials have promised to continue working hard to protect lives and stop illegal activities in the region.
