Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected female informant for kidnappers in Taraba State.
The suspect, identified as Markus Grace, was caught in Sondi Village, Wukari Local Government Area.
According to a statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Grace is believed to be the girlfriend of a notorious kidnapper named Chen, who has been terrorizing the area.
Captain Oni said, “Following the recent abduction of one Malam Saidu at his residence in the Vesee community of Ukum LGA, Benue State, troops of 6 Brigade in Sondi village of Wukari LGA of Taraba State conducted an intelligence-led operation on September 6, 2024, and arrested a suspected kidnapper’s informant named Miss Markus Grace for reportedly aiding kidnappers and criminal elements in the area. She is also confirmed to be the girlfriend of a notorious kidnapper named Chen who was reported to be terrorizing the general area.”
He further added, “The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to reveal the extent of her involvement in various criminal enterprises.”
In a separate operation on September 5, 2024, troops from the Brigade, while conducting routine stop-and-search patrols in Bantaje town, Wukari LGA, stopped a suspicious Blue Toyota Yaris vehicle with Registration Number Taraba KLD 652 XA, traveling from Wukari towards Jalingo. Upon being stopped, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes.
Captain Oni explained, “A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle led to the discovery of an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine, and two Identity Cards of the National Union of Road Transport Workers Mutum Biyu Branch of Gassol LGA of Taraba State bearing Isa Ibrahim and Mallam Isa Garin Tukura. Investigation is still in progress to trace and arrest the suspect as well as to ascertain the involvement of individuals with the identity cards.”
The Nigerian Army continues its efforts to clamp down on criminal activities and restore peace in the region.
