England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid this summer after confirming his decision to leave Liverpool, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has announced.
Romano shared the update on Monday morning, posting on X (formerly Twitter), *“BREAKING: Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, here we go! Decision to leave Liverpool now confirmed as Trent says goodbye to the club after winning one more PL title. Documents being prepared for Trent to join Real Madrid on a 5-year contract, verbal agreement done.”*
Alexander-Arnold, 26, has spent his entire career at Liverpool, joining the club’s academy at age six. He has played over 350 matches for the senior team and won nine major trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.
His exit comes just weeks after helping Liverpool win another league title.
In an emotional farewell video shared on social media, Alexander-Arnold thanked fans and the club for their support throughout his journey. His final appearance for the Reds is expected to be at Anfield in their last Premier League match of the season against Crystal Palace.
According to reports by *The Athletic’s* David Ornstein, the move to Real Madrid will be on a free transfer, also known as a Bosman move. He said the right-back is expected to sign a six-year deal with the Spanish club.
At Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold will compete for a starting position with veteran right-back Dani Carvajal. He will also reunite with his England teammate and close friend Jude Bellingham.
It is still unclear whether the defender will join Madrid before the FIFA Club World Cup starts on June 14 or if the transfer will be completed officially on July 1.
Alexander-Arnold’s departure marks the end of a memorable era at Liverpool, where he became known as one of the best attacking right-backs in world football.
