TRAGIC: Chief of Army Staff dies in fatal plane crash
Newly installed Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, has died alongside seven others after a military Beachcraft 350 aircraft crashed at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday.
Confirming the news, Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria, Akin Olateru, said that the jet crashed at the airport’s runway about 6 pm.
“Beachcraft 350. 8 souls on board. Unfortunately all dead,” Olateru wrote in a WhatsApp note, according to The PUNCH.
Also, the Nigerian Air Force Director of Public Relations and Information, Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the crash.
“An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon,” Gabkwet said without providing details.
