A violent clash erupted on Wednesday at Mandilas Market in Lagos Island, leaving one person dead and several others injured after a dispute over job earnings turned deadly.

Eyewitnesses said the fight began when a trader brought a customer to another trader for a business deal. Trouble started when they could not agree on how to share the payment.

“It was just an argument at first,” said Musa, a trader at the market. “Then it became a fight, and before we knew it, one of them had been stabbed.”

The victim was rushed to the hospital but died from his injuries. His death triggered chaos as his friends and supporters from the Agarawu area stormed the market in retaliation, injuring bystanders and damaging stalls in the process.

The suspect accused of the stabbing was beaten by a crowd before police intervened and took him into custody.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said a suspect had been arrested.

“Normalcy has been restored to the area, and security operatives are on the ground to prevent further violence,” he said.
