Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has recounted his experience during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, describing it as one of the most challenging periods he has ever faced.

Speaking at the #WithChude Live show at Eko Hotels in Victoria Island, Lagos, Falz opened up about his journey in activism and his commitment to justice.

Despite the emotional toll the movement took on him, he made it clear that he holds no regrets about participating in the nationwide demonstrations against police brutality.

He said, “That period was one of the craziest and toughest times of my life. But I don’t regret it at all. I was taught never to regret doing what I believe is right. And the Endsars protests, the struggle, the connection we all felt—it was monumental. I’m grateful I participated.”

Falz stressed that his activism stems from a deep sense of compassion and humanity rather than a desire for recognition.

“I’m not doing it for anybody specifically. It’s about what I feel strongly about. It’s about compassion. It’s about humanity,” he added.

The rapper also acknowledged the influence of his father, prominent lawyer and human rights advocate Femi Falana (SAN), whom he described as his role model in the fight for justice.

Known for leveraging his music to address social issues, Falz has continued to speak out against government misconduct and police violence.

His song “Johnny” serves as a tribute to victims of police brutality, reflecting the struggles endured by many young Nigerians.
