Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou has responded to rumors linking him to the Liverpool managerial position following Jurgen Klopp’s announced departure at the end of the season.
Despite being mentioned as a potential candidate for the Liverpool job, Postecoglou emphasized his commitment to Tottenham, where he has only been in charge for seven months since signing a four-year contract.
“I’ve only been here for seven months so I think that is self-explanatory,” stated Postecoglou, underlining his ongoing dedication to the project at Tottenham.
“I am at pains to say that we still have a long way to go in terms of the football we want to play, the team we want to be and the squad we want to have.
“We’ve only had two positive windows, had a decent campaign so far but we have a long way to go.”
He stressed that Tottenham still has a long journey ahead in terms of achieving their footballing objectives and building the team they aspire to become. Postecoglou acknowledged that while his future at Tottenham isn’t entirely within his control, his focus remains on finishing the season strongly with the club.
When pressed about his potential departure from Tottenham, Postecoglou maintained that his attention is solely on the remaining fixtures and establishing a solid foundation for the club’s future.
“The reality of it is that most of it is out of our hands,” the Spurs boss added.
“So I have never worried or thought about that. I have a history of 26 years of management where you can see pretty clear what I do.
“I rely on that as my explanation as to where my thought processes are when it comes to those sort of things.
“Right now it is about finishing the season strong with Tottenham and making sure we establish a strong foundation for who we want to be in years to come.
“That can only happen if I am totally focused on what these 14 games can bring for us,” he stated.
Reflecting on the difficulty of maintaining longevity at one club, Postecoglou admitted that modern football makes it challenging to remain in one managerial role for an extended period.
He emphasized the importance of moving on after a certain tenure, particularly after achieving success, to avoid stagnation and facilitate growth.
