A 22-year-old man simply identified as Segun has attempted to take his life by drinking an insecticide, Sniper, after scoring 167 in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

He streamed his suicide attempt live on micro-blogging site Twitter on Sunday night.

It was gathered that the young man became depressed and decided to settle for suicide after checking his UTME result on Sunday night and found out he scored 167 which he said was below the scores of his three previous attempts.

Segun has reportedly been going through some difficult times in the past which made some Twitter users adopted him and placed him on a scholarship with a promise to sponsor his education through the university.

He tweeted in October 2018:

Am victor by name, Male, 21.
Lost my dad when I was just 6.
Mom didn’t wanted to remarry, but grandma won’t let her; she says she can’t have just one kid.
She remarried and gave birth to her second born when I was 11
She gave birth to two more kids
We were 4 now Altogether.

On Sunday night, he took to Twitter to express his disappointment at his latest UTME score after four attempts, posting tweets suggesting he was trying to take his life. He later asked Twitter users to join him by 9pm as he will be teaching them how to make tea with sniper via a live stream.

He wrote,

“2015 – 189 2016 – 202 2017 – 233 It is now when People wants to send me to school that I will now score 167 in UTME? 167??! LMFAO Make I close eyes picks answers sef…Me?? 167?

“Meanwhile, I will be teaching y’all how to make Tea with Sniper by 9pm live on twitter.. Tune in.”

He thereafter shared a picture of himself lying on his bed with a bottle of Sniper on his shoulder, with the caption,

“This thing go sweet oo. Y’all should at least make this fun for me by 9pm pls. Tune in and wish me Luck.”

At 10:01pm he began the Twitter live stream which lasted for 16 minutes 28 seconds. Segun who seemed not to be dissuaded by the series of pleas from Twitter users who took to the comment section of the stream to appeal to him not to take his life,

Despite several pleas from Twitter users in the comment section of the live stream, Segun ignored all as he was seen mixing the substance with a powder milk in a cup, he thereafter drank it and lied on his bed groaning in pains.

Few minutes later, he ended the live stream himself.

Latest report as at the time of filing this report indicated that he is receiving treatment at a hospital in Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun state.

At 1:29AM, one of the social media users who had promised to sponsor his education @thepamilerin, took to Twitter to announce that Segun had been found but was yet to respond to treatment.

He wrote,

“Segun has been found, yet to respond to treatment but With God, he will survive this.”

“Let’s put Segun in our prayers please. I’m devastated.”
